Portsmouth Baton of Hope 2025 – A City United for Suicide Awareness and Prevention
On 26th September 2025, Portsmouth proudly hosted a leg of the Baton of Hope — the UK’s biggest suicide prevention initiative — as part of a nationwide journey inspiring open conversations about mental health, hope, and change.
Carried by volunteers whose lives have been touched by suicide, the Baton passed through our streets as a powerful symbol of remembrance, unity, and determination to save lives. Along the route, the city came alive with community activities, each one shining a light on the importance of compassion, connection, and support for those in need.
Together, Portsmouth joined cities across the UK to break the silence, challenge stigma, and send a clear message: there is hope, and help is always within reach.
Join us, walk with us, and help carry the message forward.
Portsmouth – Carrying the Baton with Pride
When the Baton of Hope arrived in Portsmouth in 2025, it travelled through streets steeped in history, resilience, and community spirit. From the proud masts of the Historic Dockyard to the vibrant Southsea seafront, our city we came together to honour lives lost, support those struggling, and champion a future where suicide is prevented, not hidden away.
Local schools, charities, businesses, and residents stood shoulder to shoulder, proving that Portsmouth is more than just a place on the map — it’s a city that cares deeply for its people. Along the route, familiar faces, powerful stories, and moments of connection that remind us all that no one should face their darkest days alone. This was Portsmouth’s chance to show the nation our strength, compassion, and commitment to change. We walked together, talked openly, and kept the flame of hope burning brightly across our island city.
