Welcome to Building Hope, a special chapter of our Portsmouth 100 celebration. As part of the city-wide Pride of Portsmouth Lion Trail, Seekers Create has teamed up with local businesses, charities, and residents to bring a very special symbol of resilience and unity to life.
What is HOPE?
HOPE stands for Hearing Other People’s Experiences.

Co-created by Seekers Create and sponsored by Mountjoy Ltd, HOPE the lioness is a canvas reflecting the collective heartbeat of Portsmouth. She was designed to explore what hope looks like in our city today, drawing upon personal stories and sharing messages of strength for others.

Led by Seekers Create's award-winning duo, Steve Baker and Clair Martin, we embarked on a truly unique collaborative process. Rather than designing in isolation, we held interactive creative doodle workshops where participants were encouraged to doodle, write, and share their ideas.

A Unique Creative Collaboration
We believe that creativity belongs to everyone. To shape the voices, marks, and stories on HOPE, Team Mountjoy was joined by 40 incredible individuals from five of their vital community partners, alongside the wider communities they support: The final artwork is a direct result of these 40 people expressing how they see and feel about their community. Steve and Clair then brought these wonderful doodles together into one final masterpiece!
Carrying the Baton of Hope: In Memory of Lara Kynvin

HOPE carries a deep emotional legacy for all of us. She stands as a proud "Leader of the Pack" and a beautiful tribute to Lara Kynvin, who we miss dearly.
Lara began this very process with us last year and was most definitely our Leader of the Baton of Hope. In her honour, bearers connected to the Baton of Hope were invited to contribute to the project, bringing their lived experiences and deeper context to the final design. Every brushstroke is infused with Lara's memory and her dedication to bringing hope to Portsmouth. |
