GOSPORT WALKING PAST

Gosport Voluntary Action

Gosport Walking Past

Seekers Create were delighted to collaborate with Gosport Voluntary Action to co-produce a series of podcasts focusing on 5 local historical walks around Gosport as part of GVA 'Walking Past' project.

Walking Past takes you on a journey through Gosport's built, coastal and natural heritage.  Inspiring local residents and visitors to engage with the heritage on their doorstep. The 'Walking Past' walks are free and can be self led or if you prefer you can join GVA walk leaders and explore Gosport together!

Continuing from the historical walks, the 'Walking Past' project further embraced the community spirit in Gosport by incorporating art, particularly through doodling, as a key component. This artistic approach brought together various segments of the community, including older adults, young people, veterans, refugees and disability groups. Enabling them to express themselves creatively and share their stories.

A highlight of this initiative was the creation of our ‘Walking Past’ community mural and interactive exhibition space. This exhibition showcased the vibrant artworks and doodles produced by the community, symbolising Gosport’s collective memories, experiences and perspectives. These doodles, more than just decorative pieces, became a canvas reflecting Gosport's rich heritage and the diverse voices of its residents.
Through these creative endeavours, the 'Walking Past' project has not only made Gosport's history more accessible but has also nurtured a sense of community pride and connection. This blend of heritage exploration and community art has left a lasting impact, demonstrating how collective efforts can bring about meaningful and visually engaging transformations in a community.
The 'Walking Past' project has engaged with many local people in the heritage, historical, access, tourism and nature and creative sectors and involved many new and existing volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
Below are 5 doodles of each walk. Click on the Green numbered icons to hear the story of each walk, told by GVA Walk Leader & Creator Ann Sandall and Seekers team.
